【DESCRIPTION】 Title Zojoji Tenjoe Publication Year 1999
San'en-zan Zojoji (三縁山増上寺: Zōjō-ji) is a Buddhist temple in the Shiba neighborhood of Minato-ku in Tokyo, Japan. It is the Great Main Temple of the Chinzai sect of Shingon. The main image is of Amida Buddha. The founder of Zōjō-ji was Yūyo Shōsō (酉誉聖聡).
In this Zojo-ji,there is a room called "Hikarisetsuden",which has 108 tatamis. On the ceiling,there are 120 pieces of coloful Japanese style painting. This kind of paintings on the ceiling are called "Tenjoe"."Tenjo" means "ceiling" and "e " means "paintings"T here are some temples in Japan which have Tenjoe.
The room with a lot of ceiling paintings itself goes well with the beautiful "Tenjoe" and it can be said that it is a Japanese style fine art.
The ceiling is filled with 120 flower and bird panel-paintings which are fine works by 120 artists representative of Japan such as Shoko Uemura or Yuki Ogura. Please visit Zoko-ji Tenjoe
