This item has two books. The main volume contains beautiful 351 textile-dyeing works from the collection of Kawashima Textile Museum including about 50 works mainly from China. There are list of plates in English. Approx 353 (201 color pages)
The another volume contains exquisite 62 works from Kawashima clan, mainly the 2nd generation Jinbei Kaweashima. There are titles of works in English at last of this book. Approx. 117 pages (75 color pages)
All designs in this item are printed in color.
Showa Emperor and Empress visited Kawashima textile-dyeing factory in 1967. Not only that, kawashima factry was visited by Eisyou Queen mother and Taisyo Emperor in Meiji, Teimei Empress in Taisyo period, Crown prince in Syowa period (Emperor today), in 1953. This means kawashima textile-dyeing is very valuable, and this item includes many works of them.
In the preface Mr Kitamura, the supervisor says; 'Today the industry of textile-dyeing is going down. We can say Japan is the only country that preserve various techniques and cultures of textile-dyeing. This collection is very important historical material'
All designs are exquisite and fablous. Even if you don't understand Japanese, you will enjoy this book through many photos.
