You'll enjoy glamorous,fabulous Imperial Costumes through the Tale of Genji,which has been regarded as the masterpiece of Japanese prose literature.
In the preface of this book,Prince Takamado says,"Over a thousand years ago,the court women in in Japan were highly cultured.Not only did they master the complex writing system of man'yogana-adapted from the Kanji characters imported from China,while the men adhered to Chinese letters and literature-these women also invented a new writing style called Hiragana,mosified from the cursive Chinese characters to a Japanese syllabary.I do not believe that any such example can be seen in the history of the world.Whether we discuss the magnificence of the colorful layers of a women's formal ceremonial court costume or the elegant names given to each color,we find the sensibility of the Heian court women sublime.
Although this exhibition merely reproduces the elegant world of the Heian through various court costumes and models,the aim I believe,is to explore the culture and spirit that has been transmitted to us today"
