【DESCRIPTION】
TITLE Introduction to Karatedo
Author Kanken Toyama,who is the founder of Shudokan He is known as one of Anko Itosu's excellent pupils.You'll see his photos on the following Shudokan karate page.
Publication year 1969 First edition Of course,out-of-print and extremely rare.
I have seldom seen Shudokan Karate book here in Japan.Shudokan's karate books are much more scarce than those of many other schools of karate.
As far as I know,Kanken Toyama published three books.-Karatedo daihokan,Karatedo,and Karatedo Okugi hijutsu-All of them are extremely rare.
Shudokan (修道館, Shūdōkan), literally the hall for the study of the [karate] way, is a school of karate developed by Kanken Toyama (1888 – 1966). Characteristics of Shudokan karate include large circular motions with an emphasis on covering and its own unique kata.
In the preface of this book,Kanken Toyama says,"Many people all over japan who are interested in Karate have asked me to publish a book on Karate.I have tried to edited this book so that those who are going to learn Karate or have already learned Karate,that is ,all people who are interested in karate,recognize it as only one great Karate textbook"
