In the preface, the author Yasuyoshi Sugiura says; 'I have been producing ceremic stones for about 20 years. My motto is 'A stone a day', but the motto itself is not particularly significant. What I am trying to do is acheve a sense of indisputable presence. Rocks, mountains, the sea-all share that define presence that I am attempting to seize upon.
Returningwhat I have produce from that sense of presense (my ceramic stones)to setting in which they belong (the natural environment) lets me explore an interior question: what is that feeling I have caught within myself? It also poses an exterior question: how will my ceramic stones affect the surrounding space? I'd like to develop that thought'
