Kyouhou 4th(1719) Syougun Yoshimune ordered Honnami-Mitsutada to make a list of famous Japanese swords.
The book is called "Kyouho Meibutsu Cho(Kyouhou famous sword book)."

Honnami is a Tokugawa official swords connoisseur. His family has a list of"Origami(the fold paper)".He choose good swords from it and made a list with sword's history.

The swords in this book are called "Meibutsu(well-known)".Later,many of them were designated as National Treasure or Important Cultural Property.

This exhibition catalogue includes approx 80 Japanese swords from the Kyoho Meibutsu Cho.It would be a great catalogue if you are interested in Japanese sword,especially,masterpices.Needless to say,many of them are designated as National Treasure or Imporatant Cultural Property.
