This book was published as a catalogue of an Exhibition held by Kurita Museum in 1989.
In the afterword of this book,Soji Mitamura says,"This time I wandered through the central part of Kyoto,Nakagyo and Shimogyo wards,sketching about 200 of the more interesting structures from which 121 examples have been selected for this collection.
Rakuchu is what we call the old city of Kyoto which,since the founding of Heian-kyo as capital over 1200 years ago,has become its cultural and financial center.Its many different types and forms of established shops,old homes,historical sites,as well as shrines and temples still preserve today the typical way that Kyoto row housesline the street.These are what I feel to be the flowers of Kyoto.
My own desire is to record but also to to entreat that these homes in Middle Kyoto which are still strongly rooted and unfading in the trnasfiguring flow of time be preserved and passed to the future people of the next century-as the flowers which bloom in profussion in Mid Kyoto."
Fortunately,this book includes English description of each painting.Even if you don't understand Japanese,you'll enjoy it through those descriptions.
