Japanese embroidery is said that was influenced by Chinese embroidery. This book is interesting from the point of view of feeling the origin of Japanese embroidery.
This is 4 volumes set.
2 books are large format. The first volume (large format 39*47cm, 269pages) contains 95 photos of tapestry and embroidery from Sung period(10c-13c) to Ching period (17c-20c). The second (large format 39*47cm, 126pages) contains 55 photos from the same period as the first one. There is a list of works in English in each page.
The size of these two is large enough to enjoy the equisite and beautiful tapestris and embroideris in colors. The designs are almost dealing with nature such as birds, flowers or mountains.
The other 2 volumes (20.7*36.5cm, 73pages and 88pages) contain descriptions about photos in large format books in Japanese and Mandarin. These also contains photos of other tapestries and embroideries in black and white.
